For the second consecutive year, the Glass Slipper event is helping Kosciusko County girls who may not otherwise to be able to afford prom, to not only attend, but look like a princess for the event.
Alexis Lisenbee and Kate Cobb were both Warsaw Community High School students last year when they founded the Glass Slipper program. In short, they collect donations of formal dresses, shoes and accessories and give them to girls who cannot afford to buy their own. Last year, 87 girls from all over Kosciusko County received a dress, 12 boys were provided with tuxes, and an additional 15 students received flowers, meals and hair styles for their prom.
Lisenbee, now a freshman at Grace College, and Cobb, a sophomore at WCHS, are again heading up this year’s program. “The only two (people) to be involved are myself and Kate,” says Lisenbee. “This is to insure privacy so girls don’t feel awkward coming to choose their dress.”
This year, dress-choosing day will be Saturday, April 17, at the Kosciusko Community Foundation. It will be by invitation only, so it is important for girls and boys to sign up at their respective high schools. Contact names and information for each school will be announced at a later date. Those wanting to register now may also do so at the Combined Community Services which is www.combinedcommunityservices.org, or by email to freshman_junior@yahoo.com. Early regisration is recommended and is open to any student who attends any high school in Kosciusko County.
Right now, Lisenbee and Cobb are asking businesses and individuals to provide free, simple alternations as needed. They also need new or gently used formal wear, shoes and accessories, and are asking for hair stylists to donate their time as well. To offer any of those services, call 574-269-6012 Ext. 22 and leave a message with your information.
