     The annual Crazy Waiter event to benefit Combined Community Services, Warsaw, was held Saturday night at the 2517. The event featured several couples who danced for the title and to raise money for CCS.

New Hope Pet of the Week

     This week’s Pet of the Week from the New Hope Pet Rescue in northern Kosciusko County is Simone.
     Simone was an orphaned kitten and has been hand-raised and prespoiled. When she went to her foster home a couple of days ago from the rescue, she watched her foster parents for two hours, then came out of hiding. The 7-month-old kitten has since adjusted to a litter box with a swinging door, gets along with other cats, is not afraid of dogs and has already learned the word “no.”

     Irene Salman, 95, of Winona Lake, Ind., went to be with the Lord on Sat., Feb. 27, 2010, at 2:10 a.m. at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake, Ind.
     She was born on Oct. 14, 1914, in Kosciusko County to Samuel and  Barbara (Baker) Rhoades. On April 8, 1933, she married C.J. Salman, who passed away Dec. 2, 1970.

IHSAA BOYS SWIM STATE FINALS
     In the state swim finals at the IUPUI Natatorium on Friday night, the Tiger state qualifiers failed to advance to Saturday’s finals. Results from Friday are as follows:
     200 Medley Relay: 27th (1:41.61) Mitchell Gauger, Andrew Cutshall,
Thomas Wack, Harrison Green
     200 Individual Medley: Andrew Cutshall-30th (2:06.35)
     400 Freestyle Relay: 29th (3:21.30) Andrew Cutshall, Reid Swanson,

Wawasee sports notes

WAWASEE 84 TIPPECANOE VALLEY 74
     The Wawasee boys basketball team took a victory over Tippecanoe Valley Friday night. Leading the Warriors was Riley Stichter who scored an impressive 40 of the team’s total 84 points.
     Also scoring in double digits were Logan Hatfield with 13 points, Jacob Thompson with 12 points and Keegan Beer with 10 points.
     Wawasee finished the regular season 13-7 and 4-3 in the conference.
     The Wawasee JV was also victorious with a 30-29 win over TV to finish the season at 13-5.

Winter Weather Advisory

     The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until midnight tonight.
     Snow and blowing snow will develop late this afternoon with periods of light to moderate snow. Snow accumulations from 1 inch to 3 inches are expected, with amounts up to 4 inches possible north of U.S. 30.
     Forecasters say wet roads will flash freeze toward sunset and areas of blowing snow will reduce visibility to less than one-half mile at times.

     A car collided with a train at the Market Street railroad crossing in Warsaw at about 3:04 p.m. Friday. Donna Plummer, 65, of Warsaw, was injured, possibly suffering a broken arm.

Barbara Ann Patterson-Brilliandt

     Barbara Ann Patterson-Brilliandt, 79, Warsaw, died Feb. 25, 2010, at 5:10 p.m. at her home.
     She was born June 27, 1930, in Kosciusko County to Loren and Eva (Secor) Downing. On June 5, 1948, she married Max Patterson, who died in 1984. On Feb. 14, 1987, she married Robert Brilliandt, who survives.

* The city of Warsaw reported the theft of a GPS unit from a city vehicle.
     * On Feb. 13, Hazel Hufzinger of Warsaw reported criminal mischief to her residence. She reported an unknown person slid off the road and went through a fence damaging three sections of it.
     * On Feb. 18, a North Webster woman reported being intimidated and threatened by her husband.

     When a case worker with Child Protective Services went to 10 EMS W29 Lane in North Webster Thursday to check on the welfare of children and was denied access, red flags went up and officers of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department were called.

Crash closes Wawasee HS

     Wawasee High School is closed today due to an auto accident. Though law enforcement officials have not yet released any details about the crash, Kosciusko REMC says it happened on CR 1200 North at Kern Road in Syracuse.

     The driver of a pickup truck escaped critical injury Thursday night when he lost control of his pickup truck on North Detroit Street (SR 15) and slammed into a utility pole.

Warsaw fighters split cage fight wins

      Two Warsaw fighters entered the arena for the 17th Gladiator Elite cage fighting event on Feb. 20, but only one exited with a victory.
     In the third bout of 10 total for the evening, Jeremiah Lowe of Warsaw  stepped into the cage to face fire fighter Terry Cassell who represents Team Elite of Fort Wayne. After some heated punching and kicking by both fighters, Cassell used a double-leg tackle to drive Lowe into the fence and then to the ground. After winning the scramble for position, Cassell submitted Lowe with an arm-triangle choke.
