Private Garden Gates Open to Visitors June 26
The semi-annual North Manchester Garden Walk has become an inspiration for gardeners, nature lovers and all who appreciate the serenity of the outdoors. It has earned a reputation as being both soothing and invigorating. It is a day filled with beautiful blooms, exotic plants, creative design, garden art, butterflies, birds and fellowship.
The “Welcome to My Garden Tour” is intended to cater to those who wish to enjoy a leisurely stroll through unique and charming gardens, or to those who wish to garner inspiration and ideas for their own gardening projects.
This year the tour begins at Buckingham Place located in the quiet “Orchard Drive” neighborhood that is tucked in the northeast corner of North Manchester. Garden beds abound with Midwest perennials, and shade loving plants.
The tour continues to Sunset Drive where an unusual bowl-shaped backyard garden is carved out of a hill and features tiered beds overflowing with bountiful blooms and colorful foliage. Garden Tour participants will enjoy refreshments while viewing several delightfully themed garden table settings at the stateliest Victorian home in all of North Manchester.
Dale and Vicki Carpenter are graciously hosting the refreshments and the “Garden Party” portion of the tour on their front lawn. Come and view the magnificent, original architectural details of the exterior of this Victorian home.
Various businesses, philanthropic groups and artistic citizens will display themed garden party tables. Garden tour visitors can mingle and mill throughout the garden party tables while enjoying the refreshments provided by the North Manchester Tourism Committee. Garden walk participants will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite garden party table setting. The artist creating the winning table will receive a prize of a special array of colorful perennial plants donated by Metzger Landscaping.
At the home of Stephen Batzka, Garden Walk ticket holders will not only be invited to view the exceptional gardens, but also to tour the inside of this meticulously restored 1883 Italianate Victorian home on south Elm Street. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view the interior architecture of this unique home as well as the many floral arrangements that compliment the owner’s collection of Victorian antiques and collectibles.
Travel to the River Dells addition of North Manchester to south River Cove Lane along the banks of the Eel River to discover a beautiful backyard. The focal point of this peaceful backyard setting is a serene water garden surrounded by perennial gardens, a paver patio and stone pathways.
Saturday’s tour is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the North Manchester Public Library the day of the event and may be purchased prior to the event at Cottage Creations, At Home Again, Dr. Croner DDS, Manchester Greenhouse and the North Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
Refreshments will be provided along the tour, which is sponsored by the North Manchester Tourism Committee.
